France Day 5

We awoke in Burgundy's lovely city of Auxerre built by the river. We got lost in the city as it was waking and had pastries for breakfast while we explored. Brad loved the traditional croissants and I loved Pain au chocolat. It was fun to see the details of this charming city. The French train their dogs very well and this dog waited for his owner without a leash and during our pics without moving while she went into the patisserie- such a good dog.

On our way to our next destination we drove through Burgundy. It was full of beautiful  rolling hills, fields, vineyards, and charming farm houses and I kept asking Brad to pull over so I could take a picture.

Our next destination was in Champagne, the lovely city of Troyes, We had lunch in the lovely gardens and took a walking tour of the city. One thing that stood out in this little city was the monument commemorating all those who fought in WWI, and WWII, and those who were in the Resistance. It was moving to realize Troyes and many of the city's we had previously seen were occupied by Germany and the brave efforts of the Allies and these French citizens were able to liberate them. While exploring this city we found their cathedral and a statue of an author who wrote "Compte de Champagne".

We then made our way to Reims. Reims is famous for the cathedral where all the kings and queens of France were corronated. As we were driving and walking around we noticed people with their baguettes sticking out of their bags walking home. I could live off of baguettes and butter. Yum. We explored the cathedral and had dinner at a most delicious restaurant- Cafe Reims. I had duck in a bernais sauce and creme brulee and Brad had filet mignon. We will never forget when Brad accidentally made a turn and ended up driving on a walking street, Ha ha ha- driving in France.
